It’s important not to be blinded by the word “free.” If you can afford it, stay away from free plans for your business site, even if it’s a small business. Of course, if the alternative is no website, then a free one is still better than nothing. But free plans come with certain restrictions that can give your business website an unprofessional look, such as strange domain names and an obtrusive advert.
Weebly is one of the oldest website builders out there. It has a decade of experience in website building and web design. Also, Weebly has grown to become one of the most sophisticated website building platforms. Sites built using Weebly look nowhere close to a website that would have been built using a website builder platform. On the feature list, you’ll find over 100 customizable design styles and an easy to setup blogging system. It also has an in-built forms builder to help you create custom and dynamic forms. Weebly also possess a photo gallery and slideshow integration. Moreover, the developers added detailed analytical reports of your website performance and it has custom image editing. They also added search engine optimization, eCommerce integration, and the list just keeps going on and on. All website owners get full access to edit HTML and CSS to their own liking.
Hey Ben, thank you for all the information. I think web site builders in general are a great tool for novice computer users such as myself. I started my own website and it took me only a few hours to do so! I know I might sound childish, but this is unheard of for me. I used the Wix website builder software which was free of charge, and I am contemplating upgrading to the 2nd plan in order to remove the banner ads.
Webs is a perfect example of how far website builders have come, and it’s hard to believe that there was a time that this was the best available builder in the market. Another major drawback on the site is its free plan is limited to five pages. This is the only platform that justifies a failing review. With no competitive features and extremely limited benefits, it’s hard to justify even using this platform for free.
Lynda.com could be described as the godfather (or perhaps godmother?) of training on the web. Founded in 1995 by Lynda Weinman, it’s been running high quality courses in software, creative, and business skills for decades. And if anything its purchase by, and integration into, LinkedIn in 2015 has made it even more focused on helping you improve your career prospects.
Wix ADI. The website builder offers an advanced Artificial Design Intelligence tool that notably simplifies the process of website creation by automatically creating a project for you based on the information you submit. If you feel, however, that you are ready to launch a unique website on your own, you can make use of Standard Wix Editor to do that. Mobile editor is available here as well.
The design and structure of this course follows elite college curriculum. WordPress.com is not to be confused with its bigger brother WordPress.org (read our beginners’ guide). The latter is fantastic if you are not scared of diving into technical terrain, but surprisingly, the .com version is not that much easier to use and has a lot of restrictions. Having said that, if all you want is just to create a blog, WordPress.com could be a great solution for you. For a website, though, we find there are better solutions.
Hi Jeremy, This is the most informative article on web design that I have come across. And I have read quite a number! I had a question though. I don't know anything about html/css or any code for web design, and I need to include a searchable database in a website I'm to create. Any ideas/tips on doing this on a WYSIWYG website builder? Thank you very much
Maybe just like you, at first we didn't have a darn clue about how to build a website, nevermind write half a line of code if our life depended on it! We wanted to build a website to start a side business, and felt overwhelmed, confused & scared about how to actually do it, which builder to use, and making wrong decisions. After years of trials & errors using different website builders, we're here to share our experiences with you.
With 1 GB of free space available and ten free product listings, there’s a lot to love with the Webstarts free website builder. However, they do use incredibly aggressive and irritating upsell tactics once you begin to use their platform. It’s also important to note that whiie they do have a competitive edge with their data storage, they aren’t cutting edge in terms of graphics. If looks are a top priority, it’s best to look a different direction.

Their motto is learn by doing, which isnít a bad idea. This is for the beginner that doesnít really have a passion for web design. This is for people that want to write their own websites without having to rely on content management systems, and yet is not really all that interested in the drudgery of learning. That is why they have set up games and themes to help you learn without putting too much effort in. Sadly, there are only eight introductory course, but they are helpful for beginners with no experience.

Very nice of you to give us this understandable and detailed description of how to make a website. To be honest I haven´t started yet but I do have one question before that: is there a time frame of how long the website (letś say build through wordpress) will exist? i have built some blogs previously which experied at one point, the domain simply did not exist anymore. I am looking to build a website which will develop throughout time, ideally lifetime. thanks!
A website builder is an online content management system that enables users to plan and build their own websites without need for the advanced designing and technical coding skills that would otherwise be required to create one. One would generally feature a step-by-step guide that assists users with everything from choosing a domain name to selecting a template that suits their needs.
